Princeton Instruments/Acton has announced the release of a hybrid spectroscopy sensor that combines the benefits of CCD and CMOS devices. The sensor features high quantum efficiency, speed-independent subelectron readout noise and negligible dark current. The CCD part of the sensor collects and converts photons into electrons, and the charge is transferred to a CMOS silicon chip, where it is amplified at kilohertz speed to facilitate very low noise performance. A proprietary sampling technique reduces noise further. The CCD may be front- or back-illuminated.See full product
