The Centroc1000 is designed for the quality control of fiber optic connector ferrules. Available from Norland Products Inc., the instrument automatically measures bare ferrules in less than 5 s for eccentricity of the inside diameter, cylindricity of the outside diameter and the diameter of the bore. It provides eccentricity measurements accurate to 0.1 μm. With few moving parts, high-resolution optics, hardened wear surfaces and rigid construction to minimize vibration, the system is repeatable to 0.01 μm. It features automated focus, insertion, ejection and rotation and has applications in pass/fail inspection in manufacturing and in marking the key position for making tuned connectors.
