CAMBRIDGE, Mass., Sept. 7, 2007 -- Imagine Optic, an Orsay, France-based provider of Shack-Hartmann wavefront sensing technologies, has introduced AOKit-bio, an adaptive optics kit for biologists which enhances microscopic imaging.

AOKit-bio uses three technologies packaged together to accommodate unique applications in microscopy: the HASO 3 wavefront sensor, a Shack-Hartmann sensor for beam measurement and analysis; the mirao-52d electromagnetic deformable mirror, which enables precise correction for specimen-induced aberrations in microscopic images; and CASAO software for command and control of the HASO3 and the mirao-52d.

AOKit-bio was developed to provide unprecedented image precision to biologists using both multiphoton and confocal microscopes. It is being used by researchers at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) and the Howard Hughes Medical Institute in Chevy Chase, Md., Imagine Optic said.

The AOKit-bio could have a wide variety of applications, including earlier detection of cancer as a result of more precise deep-tissue images.

Imagine Optic will exhibt AOKit-bio at Optics East (Booth 251), being held Sept. 9-12 at the Seaport World Trade Center in Boston.
