Schneider-Kreuznach said its new MacroVaron 85-mm, f/4.5 lens for machine-vision systems features the company's new continuous aberration suppression (CAS) technology.

The MacroVaron lens enables system integrators and equipment manufacturers to significantly improve the reliability and flexibility of quality assurance processes in production inspection systems, Schneider-Kreuznach said. The company's unique CAS technology within the lens enables the use of ultrahigh resolution down to 2.5 µm over an extremely large magnification range from 0.5X to 2X, with uniform performance over the entire range.

MacroVaron.jpgA 62-mm image circle, low distortion and excellent chromatic correction make the MacroVaron lens ideal for high-resolution line-scan applications up to 12 k (and down to 5 µm-pixel sizes), such as those used in flat-panel display (FPD) and printed circuit board (PCB) inspection systems, the company said.

The relative illumination of the lens is virtually constant over the entire image height, enabling the use of the full size of the sensor. This uniformity of light eliminates the need for electronic compensation, minimizing the camera signal's noise. The 85-mm focal length of the lens reduces the required working distance, which decreases the space needed for the camera-lens assembly.

“The powerful diffraction-limiting capabilities of the MacroVaron lens represents a major breakthrough for system integrators and equipment manufacturers seeking to improve the performance and efficiency of their machine-vision systems,” said Dirk Muschert, director of marketing. “Much like the recent groundbreaking introduction of our 12-k Makro-Symmar line-scan lenses, the MacroVaron lens with CAS technology represents Schneider-Kreuznach’s commitment to expanding the boundaries of modern technology trends in the industry.”

Like all of its industrial macrolenses, the MacroVaron features Schneider-Kreuznach’s unique iris-locking mechanism and rugged design, to ensure extremely reliable and precise measurements in even the harshest high-vibration manufacturing environments, the company said.
