Alpao has introduced the dm88 deformable mirror. Because of the magnetic actuators’ large stroke and the noncontact arrangement of the membrane and the coil array, deformations up to 50 μm are possible. The mirror compensates for tip/tilt motion without an additional low-order correction stage in most applications. Made of a continuous membrane that is deformed by a set of miniature voice-coil actuators, the mirror features a 22.5-mm pupil diameter, a 2.5-mm pitch, >95% linearity, a protective silver coating and a bandwidth of 160 Hz.
