Coherent.jpgCoherent Inc. has launched the Avia 532-38, a diode-pumped solid-state laser. The device delivers more than 38 W of output at 532 nm with a 45-ns pulse width. It features M2 <1.3 beam quality, high average power, PermAlign solder-bonding technology, Aluminum-free Active Area pump laser diodes, the Total Pulse Control software suite, a sealed water-cooled head and a compact air-cooled power supply. The laser is suitable for micromachining applications, including singulation of microelectronics packages, wafer scribing and edge isolation in solar cells.

GLOSSARY
diode-pumped solid-state laser
A compact solid-state laser, referred to as DPSSL, created when a laser diode pumps light into either the sides or end of gain crystal. Depending on where the pumping occurs, high-quality and stable output beams can be achieved with end-pumped lasers, and high-power output beams can be realized as with side-pumped lasers. Common in green laser pointers, DPSSLs are also used for a variety of materials processing applications, such as cutting and precision marking, and in optogenetics.
