The alpha500 and alpha700 microscopy series for automated confocal Raman imaging and atomic force microscopy (AFM) on large samples has been unveiled by WiTec GmbH. A motorized sample stage with a travel range of 150 × 100 mm for the 500 and 350 × 300 mm for the 700 enables multiarea/multipoint measurements or overview scans on an arbitrary user-defined number of measurement points. An integrated autofocus and an automatic AFM tip approach enable performance of routine measurement procedures or manually defined sequences without process control by an operator. The system incorporates a piezo-driven scan stage with capacitive feedback control and TrueScan dynamic position control. In Raman imaging mode, a complete spectrum is acquired in 760 μs at each image pixel, resulting in acquisition of images consisting of tens of thousands of Raman spectra in <1 min.
