3SPhotonics.jpgThe 1999 CHP series ultrahigh-power 980-nm terrestrial pump laser modules have been announced by 3S Photonics SA. The proprietary laser chip is fully qualified, exceeding Telcordia recommendations. The laser modules are available with kink-free operating power >600 mW at operating temperatures from –5 to 75 °C, and the wavelength is locked via a fiber Bragg grating located in a single-mode polarization-maintaining fiber pigtail. The RoHS-compliant devices include a thermoelectric cooler, a precision thermistor and a back-facet monitoring photodiode and are housed in an epoxy- and flux-free 14-pin butterfly package. Maximum total power consumption is 7.6 W. Applications include low-noise and next-generation dense-wavelength-division-multiplexing erbium-doped fiber amplifiers.
