VRmagic GmbH has introduced its FPGA (field-programmable gate array) series USB smart cameras, which have an internal 64-MB buffer that prevents loss of image data and that optimizes the use of bandwidth when operating multiple USB components. The colour cameras operate with a 10-bit Bayer converter and perform compression of image data in real time. They are packaged in a 46 × 46 × 40-mm housing with a C-mount lens holder. Operating temperature is from 0 to 40 °C. Features include an integrated frame grabber, unlimited access to uncompressed sensor data, operation with external hardware, storage of up to nine user configurations, soft trigger, time stamps, a frame counter, storage of user settings and multiple standard formats plus one free definable region of interest. To facilitate integration into existing applications, the company has enhanced the software development kit.
