Docter-Optics_Light-Pipes.jpgDocter Optics GmbH has introduced miniature light pipes made of optical glass for use in LED applications and laser-based systems. The free-form lenses have a diameter of 2 to 3 mm and are 8 to 10 mm long. The company also manufactures light pipes with high slenderness ratios and lengths of up to 70 mm that can be used to modify the beam angle of LEDs or to reshape beams of light from, for example, rectangular to round. They have a contour tolerance of >4 μm peak to valley, and have plano, cylindrical, ellipsoid, parabolic or other boundaries that can be molded or ground and polished.
