Applied Scientific Instrumentation has released its automated MS-9400 X-Y microscope stage. The unit offers a travel range of 225 × 100 mm to allow it to scan eight 25 × 75-mm slides. It employs cross roller slides, precision leadscrews and zero-backlash miniature geared DC servomotors to provide 100-nm resolution with repeatability accuracy of <700 nm rms using standard rotary encoders. Optional linear encoders enable 50-nm resolution and repeatability accuracies of <300 nm rms.
