Matrox Design Assistant version 2.0 is now available from Matrox Video and Imaging Technology Europe Ltd. This software package enables users to deploy the Iris E-Series smart camera in industrial applications ranging from aerospace and automotive to cosmetic, food, medical and pharmaceutical.
The software uses a flow-chart approach to control all aspects of the application, from image capture to the processing, analysis and display of data. No programming or scripting is involved. The manufacturing engineer develops the application using the self-contained integrated development environment on a PC before deploying it to the camera. The image processing functions include arithmetic, filtering and geometric transformations, look-up table mapping, morphology and thresholding. There are higher-level operations such as pattern recognition and gauging, text reading, and bar- and matrix-code reading. The software also supports Ethernet and Modbus communications with programmable logic controllers and automation hardware via TCP/IP. The user can control and monitor applications through the factory floor network, with a Web-based interface, and can synchronize image capture to the production process.
E-Series smart cameras have a low-power embedded Intel Celeron processor that runs on the Windows CE real-time operating system. The camera is available in a single body or in a remote head version, and the family includes a range of sensor types and resolutions. The software includes sample projects and video tutorials that not only help the user to gain familiarity but also to boost productivity. It includes a “Custom Step” software development kit that enables advanced users to supplement the supplied functionality with proprietary image processing algorithms and communications protocols.
