Kappa opto-electronics GmbH has released a series of cameras with controlled double-stage Peltier cooling for use in low-light applications with extremely long exposure times, including fluorescence microscopy, astronomy, electrophoresis and gel documentation. They feature a 2/3-in. CCD sensor and are available with a FireWire, Camera Link or Gigabit Ethernet interface. At room temperature, the sensor is cooled to −15°C.
