CARROLLTON, Texas, Feb. 11, 2009 – Optek Technology has released a reflective object sensor in a miniature surface mount package for non-contact sensing of reflective objects.

OPTEK-Mini-IR.jpgThe OPB733TR device uses a lensed infrared LED and phototransistor elements to collimate the light beam to give it an optimizing detection range from 10 to 25.4 mm and a minimum output current of 100 mA that eliminates the need for external amplification of the output signal. It also delivers a peak emission wavelength of 890 nm, a output on-state collector current of 0.1 mA at 12.7 mm from the target and a 20 mA forward current and VCE of 5 V. Its rise and fall time is 15 mS.

The sensor features a molded dark epoxy package to minimize ambient visible light interferences. Its surface mount package is reflow solder compatible to 260 °C. It is available in 16 mm tape on 7-in. diameter reels with 500 pieces per reel.

It is suitable for paper edge detection in office machines, mail sorting machines and printing equipment; coin recognition; bill and card detection in vending machines and ATMs; automatic sensing applications for soap or towel dispensers; counting, sorting and proximity sensing in industrial applications; and door and end-of-travel sensing safety applications.
