Safety laser scanner
WOODCLIFF LAKE, N.J., April 30, 2009 – Keyence Corp. of America has unveiled the SZ series type 3 safety laser scanner for users to configure protection areas in complex-shaped zones and dangerous areas.

Keyonce-Laser.jpgWith a compact size, the scanner can create a protection zone up to 4.2 m with a warning zone area projecting as far as 10 m from the scanner. Its non-contact detection and versatility eliminate the need to stock multiple size safety mats, and protects it from damage from falling objects or vehicle traffic. It can easily be configured and modified with a PC during workspace setup or layout changes to detect up to 48 zones—16 protection and 32 warning zones.

It features a variety of mounting brackets to help reduce installation time, and it can perform vertical guarding or access protection with side-mounted installation.

Its built-in Muting function allows the scanner to ignore certain areas of protection zone to allow for passage of targets. The Reference Point Mounting function maintains safe conditions and the reference points can be easily set up with user-friendly the company’s SZ Configurator software.

When utilized with the company’s automated guide vehicle, it can incorporate three scanning area settings—slow area, stop area and emergency stop—into the setup. It also ensures reliable detection of any target despite color or surface finish.
