Diode-pumped solid-state laserSOLNA, Sweden, May 8, 2009 – Cobolt AB has released the Fandango 515-nm diode-pumped solid-state (DPSS) laser with 100-mW continuous-wave output power. It is suited for use in fluorescence analysis applications such as confocal microscopy, high-speed plate reading and single-molecule analysis, and also serves as a general all-solid-state alternative to bulky argon and krypton ion gas lasers. It is intended for stand-alone use in a laboratory environment or for integration as an OEM component in equipment for laser scanning microscopy, medical diagnosis and spectroscopy.
Built into a hermetically sealed compact package measuring 50 × 50 mm, it is based on proprietary HTCure technology for robustness. The single-longitudinal-mode laser produces low noise of <0.3 % rms, offers a narrow spectral linewidth of <30 MHz, typical, and delivers high TEM00 beam quality with M2<1.1. It can withstand multiple 60-g mechanical shocks in operation without any sign of degraded performance.
Beam diameter at the aperture is 700 µm, full-angle beam divergence is <1.2 mrad, long-term stability over 8 h is <3%, and beam pointing stability over the operating temperature range of 10 to 40 °C is <10 µrad/°C. Polarization ratio is >100:1.
The laser can be exposed to temperatures of >100 °C and is insensitive to pressure and humidity. It can be used to excite yellow fluorescent protein, Alexa 514 and Oregon Green. The laser controller is an ultracompact unit in either a CDRH or an OEM version. It is built on a robust platform with mounting holes for convenient installation and optimum heat dissipation. It is remotely controllable for operation and monitoring of the laser system via digital RS-232 or analog interfaces.
