NewScaleTech.jpgNew Scale Technologies Inc. has developed rotary piezoelectric micromotors using its patented Squiggle technology. Designed for NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory’s “Cobra” fibre positioner, the custom miniature devices offer >0.1° step resolution and operate at speeds ≥60 rpm. The SQR-2.4 model measures 2.4 × 2.4 mm and features 0.6-mN-m stall torque, while the SQR-4.6 measures 4.6 × 4.6 mm and features 3.0-mN-m stall torque. Applications include fibre positioning for spectrometry, electronic locks, micropumps and scanning systems.
