A digital camera system with FireWire connectivity has been released by Diagnostic Instruments Inc. The Spot RT3 Slider is CCD-cooled to –43.3 °C below ambient, reducing dark current to less than 0.03 e/p/s. Applications include long-exposure fluorescence imaging. The camera, which delivers 1600 × 1200-pixel (1.92 megapixel) images at up to 18 fps, offers both monochrome and color imaging. It comes with proprietary Spot Basic Image Capture software, which can be enhanced to include macroscripting and peripheral device control.
