SpectroSens, a biochemical detector that uses an optical silicon chip to detect toxins, viruses and bacteria in real time, has been unveiled by Stratophase. Its proprietary process simultaneously writes a waveguide and a planar Bragg grating into the chip. The handheld sensor can be used for high-speed detection, limited only by the speed with which the fluid can be introduced. It uses a patented multiwavelength analysis technology to reduce false alarms, and it does not require fluorescent tags.
