The Acryline acrylic polymer tunable Q-switched pulse laser from Elk Industries LLC can produce broadband pulses of <10-ns duration at rates of ≤20 Hz and, with an optional tuning assembly, narrow-linewidth pulses of 2 GHz. Using either linear or angle pumping and operating at 25% to 35% efficiency, the device yields 1.5- to 10-mm-diameter beams. The laser has a threshold of <5 mJ/mm2, a gain coefficient of >6 alpha and a typical dye lifetime of >100 kilopulses. Available with dye disc holders, optical mounts and liquid cells, it has applications in dermatology, cytoscopy, biometrics, endoscopy and microscopy.
