ibidi.jpgIn cooperation with the research center Jülich, ibidi GmbH has launched the μ-Slides elastic supported surfaces, which provide a soft surface for in vivolike cell cultivation. They allow the cultivation of heart or retina cells as well as microscopic evaluation via fluorescence microscopy. Initial testing has shown that the carriers, in comparison with standard slide preparations, drive the development of cytoskeleton and facilitate other cell functions, such as differentiation, in a manner more similar to in vivo cell growth. Primary and smooth muscle cells, cardiac fibroblasts and other cell types require softer surrounding surfaces because the regular tissue structure is not rigid. Processes such as the formation of protein complexes and cell morphology also are dependent on the elasticity module of the surface.
