MPBC.jpgThe VFL-P series compact visible fiber lasers offered by MPB Communications Inc. have been expanded with the 592-nm orange fiber laser. The CW lasers are offered in a modular package and produce output power of up to 200 mW. They feature a narrow linewidth, linearly polarized output and limited diffraction. The devices offer long-term wavelength stability of 0.02 nm and wavelength accuracy of 0.5 nm. Applications include fluorescence microscopy, ophthalmology, spectroscopy, medical biotechnology and laser sintering. The fiber laser unit comes in a 340 × 170 × 62-mm package that weighs 2.3 kg. It is connected to the second-harmonic-generation unit (which measures 130 × 50 × 33 mm and weighs 300 g) by a 1.5-m fiber.

fluorescence microscopy
Observation of samples using excitation produced fluorescence. A sample is placed within the excitation laser and the plane of observation is scanned. Emitted photons from the sample are filtered by a long pass dichroic optic and are detected and recorded for digital image reproduction.
