Synrad Inc. has unveiled CO2 laser models with a wavelength of 9.3 μm, as opposed to the standard 10.6 μm. The instruments can be used with organic or semiorganic materials that have a higher absorption in the 9-μm band. For these applications, the company offers the 48-1, 48-2 and firestar v30 lasers, all in the 9.3-μm range. Output power ranges from 8 to 20 W, beam divergence from 4 to 7 mrad, and beam diameter from 3.5 to 2.5 μm, depending upon the model.
