Cobolt AB has released higher-power models of its Cobolt Calypso CW diode-pumped solid-state lasers. They are suitable for applications including cell sorting, high-throughput bioanalysis, and spinning disc or line-scanning confocal microscopy. The single-line Calypso laser, which emits at 491 nm, is available with up to 100 mW of output power. The Dual Calypso emits simultaneously at 491 and 532 nm in one beam and provides up to 50 mW per wavelength. The single-frequency lasers have narrow bandwidth (typically <30 MHz), rms noise at <0.3%, peak-to-peak noise at <3%, beam quality of M2 <1.1 and power consumption of <40 W. With wavelength and beam characteristics similar to those of argon-ion lasers, they are available with a compact controller for OEM integration and a CDRH-compatible one for stand-alone use.
