HardZap metal mirrors from Hardric Laboratories Inc. allow users to design IR YAG and CO2 continuous-wave laser systems that operate uncooled up to 100 kW/cm2 and 60 kW/cm2, respectively, without laser damage to the mirror surface. These low-scatter, lightweight devices are made of beryllium and can be designed with a surface roughness as low as 10 Å rms. Highly reflective IR coatings are available for wavelengths up to 50 µ m. The mirrors are suitable for cutting, welding and miniaturization applications.
