525-W DPSS Laser SANTA CLARA, Calif., Sept. 8, 2009 – The Mamba from Coherent Inc. is a 525-W (at 1064 nm) diode-pumped, solid-state (DPSS) Q-switched laser that delivers a combination of high reliability, long lifetime and minimal maintenance downtime, and is intended for high-throughput materials processing applications such as edge deletion of solar panels, semiconductor annealing and indium tin oxide patterning.
The system comprises a water-cooled laser head, an air-cooled power supply and a water-to-water closed-loop chiller. It uses two field-replaceable gain modules to generate the 525-W output power.
Its reliability derives from several factors including PermAlign construction for drift-free long-term alignment of its resonator optics, pump diodes fabricated using proprietary and long-lived AAA material, and indium-free hard solder pump diode packaging for extended lifetime. When pump diode replacement is required, the pump modules can easily be replaced in the field for minimal downtime and reduced cost of ownership.
The device is configured as a compact laser head and separate power supply, making it easy to integrate into production machinery where space is a consideration. The laser is offered with a fiber delivery option. This 600- or 800-µm-square cross section fiber is designed to optimize process throughput for tasks such as edge deletion.
The laser has a number of other features that maximize throughput, process quality and operational flexibility. These include Pulse OnDemand, which is a suite of features (including single-shot and burst mode operation, and first pulse equalization) that make it possible to use every pulse produced. A patented optical attenuator is integrated inside the main laser housing to further facilitate process development and optimization.
