Lumex Inc. has i ntroduced a line of low-cost visible laser diodes. The OED-LDP65-001 series lasers are housed in TO-18 packages and can be used in barcode scanners, optical character recognition readers and pointers. One of the series is a 650-nm laser diode that produces 5-mW output with 35-mA typical operating current. The company says that the series costs approximately 20% less than similar units and has highly consistent power output.
