MINNEAPOLIS, Dec. 22, 2009 – The W4S-3 INOX photoelectric sensors have been launched by Sick Inc. They feature a smooth IP 69K-rated stainless steel housing that has been field-tested to withstand harsh wash down applications in the food and beverage, pharmaceutical, solar and semiconductor industries, and others that require stringent cleaning procedures.
These sensors incorporate OES3 technology into the proprietary third-generation custom application-specific integrated circuit to provide good background and foreground suppression at an extended range.
The sensors ignore stray background reflections, detect multicolored and shiny objects, and provide high immunity to ambient light. The durable housing reduces bacterial growth that can result when food particles become lodged in its small grooves or crevices, and it gives the sensor a longer life cycle, reducing replacement and downtime costs incurred when sensors frequently fail.
Available in nonprogrammable and programmable push-button versions, the sensors feature a visible LED status and power indicator on top. They can detect different colored objects while ignoring shiny targets outside their switching point due to precise background suppression. In pharmaceutical applications, they can detect small tablets and transparent bottles and can withstand the harsh cleaning agents typically used in the industry, such as hydrogen peroxide.
In the food and beverage industry, the OES3 technology enables detection of multicolored and shiny objects without losing the signal. The stainless steel housing renders the sensors corrosion-resistant to the liquids used in filling lines, such as orange juice, soda and cleaning agents. In the solar industry, the sensors can detect the presence of a solar cell because of their high optical performance and their ability to withstand cleaning agents such as acetic acid.
