L3.jpgL-3 Communications Corp.’s Infrared Products Div. has launched the high-resolution Thermal-Eye Series 17-640 thermal imager. The device has an amorphous-silicon uncooled infrared sensor with a fast response time. Available in three configurations (analog, digital, dual-mini), it can be purchased with or without a lens. The dual mini no-lens configuration is suitable for applications that require a small form factor. Optics are available in 14°, 28° and 55° fields of view. The user interface has a programmable electronic zoom sequence, an expansion port for video processing and real-time control of touch-up parameters. Wafer-level packaging enables the small detector size of 17 μm. The 640 × 480-pixel focal plane array offers a spectral response of 7.5 to 13.5 μm, thermal sensitivity of ≤50 mK and a refresh rate of 30 Hz.
