FREMONT, Calif., Jan. 29, 2010 – Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. and The Automation Partnership have jointly introduced the Capit-All IS automated screw cap storage tube capper/decapper. The robust, high-throughput instrument can de-cap or re-cap an entire rack of samples in less than 10 s. Secure capping is ensured as each tube is individually sealed by its own separate clutch mechanism to the optimal torque, while all 96 caps are secured simultaneously for fast, quality capping. The automated drip tray and a vacuum extraction port reduce the risk of sample contamination during entry and removal, and the instrument’s high-quality engineering ensures that samples remain debris-free.

Tubes of different heights in the same rack can be automatically removed and replaced, as can tubes not properly seated in the rack. A plate lifter enables use with 500-µl or 1-ml tube racks, and seal integrity is maintained with predetermined torque control. Safety features ensure that the racks are loaded in the correct orientation and prevent cross-threading or over-tightening of the caps.

The compact benchtop system can be integrated easily with automated liquid handling instrumentation. Its intuitive design enables laboratory personnel to operate it with the simple push of a button, with no training needed. Specially molded parts prevent distortion and damage to the caps after repeated use, increasing the life span of the tubes and caps.

The system is compatible with Thermo Scientific Matrix and Nunc screw cap storage tubes.
