Ametek Advanced Measurement Technology’s Ortec Products Group has released an integrated gamma ray spectrometer for use in fixed and mobile counting room applications. The self-contained LDM100-GEM is a germanium laboratory detector module, a compact unit that operates quietly and generates <20 W of waste heat. The detector element is cooled by a miniature cryocooler, rather than by liquid nitrogen. The crystal is encapsulated in a cryostat, eliminating the need for thermal cycling during a partial warm-up. The detector runs on a 10- to 17-VDC supply and has a built-in battery that enables it to run for an additional 3 h in the event of a power failure. Also included is a high-stability digital signal processor. All that is needed to make a complete gamma spectrometry system is an AC or DC power source and a PC on which to install the included Maestro MCA software.
