Sick Inc. has launched the Inspector 140 Flex, a vision sensor that produces VGA 640 x 480-pixel resolution. It offers Ethernet connectivity and increased storage capabilities that allow users to save an unlimited number of images to an off-line system or server, facilitating tracking and tracing of vision inspections. A robust pattern match algorithm locates parts independently of position, rotation or scale. Packaging applications include label position on bottles, cartons and cases; date code presence; cap inspection; blister packs; sterile soft bags; level control of fluids where nonvolumetric filling is applied; and uniformity of positioning packs in bulk. Automotive applications include small part assembly; bowl feeder inspection; verifying part assembly; verifying correct type in multitype production lines; verifying presence of holes, nuts, safety springs and simmer rings; and surface inspection of defects.
