LEATHERHEAD, UK, April 21, 2010 — Porvair Sciences Ltd. has announced a black microplate and seal combination that eliminates sample degradation by exposure to light, even over long-term storage periods.

Manufactured from polypropylene, the 96-deep-well microplate offers good heat and solvent resistant qualities. Using only ultrapure-grade polymer means that each black plate has near zero leachates, ensuring long-term sample integrity. The plates are supplied RNase-/DNase-free, meaning that they can be used with even the most sensitive biological samples.

Offering a sample volume of 1 ml per well with round well bottoms for good mixing, the black plates are manufactured to applicable ANSI/SBS dimensions to ensure complete compatibility with almost all readers and automated equipment.

Also available from the company for use with the 96-well black microplates are AbsorbMax 200-µm-thick black vinyl adhesive sealing films. A split backing aids in applying the sealing film properly. Edge cut outs assist in positioning and accommodate ribs on the plate bottom. The light-blocking and absorbing properties make the sealing films, in combination with the plates, suitable for protecting light-sensitive assays or samples during storage.
