Leica Microsystems GmbH has launched the TCS STED (stimulated emission depletion) CW microscopy system. Available as an upgrade for systems that are already installed, the device combines the company’s confocal TCS SP5 with patented superresolution technology. Capable of real-time, high-speed scanning on the nanoscale, it can scale down the scanning spot to subdiffraction size by switching off fluorescence in the periphery of the excited area. The instrument can be used with numerous fluorescent dyes and proteins for a variety of applications.
