IRVINE, Calif., July 7, 2010 — Newport Corp. has introduced the URS50BCC and the URS50BPP precision rotation stages that feature 360° continuous motion and a 50-mm footprint.
The stages provide backlash-free, continuous rotation with a high mean time between failures of up to 20,000 h and low wobble. Both stages offer 6-µm eccentricity and easy integration. They have a proprietary four-point contact ball bearing. A cable is included with all stages for plug-and-play compatibility with the company’s SMC, ESP and XPS controllers.
The stages feature a two-part design with pre-tempered steel gears and bearings to ensure precision and long-life motion positioning. The URS50BCC, the DC-motor version with index pulse for precision homing, is suitable for demanding applications that require bi-directional positioning.
The more economical URSBPP stepper motor version is suitable for less demanding, yet precision rotation applications. It features an ultrahigh-resolution 8000 counts per revolution rotary encoder with index pulse for precision homing. For tight position control, the encoder is mounted directly on the worm screw, eliminating the errors associated with indirect read feedback devices. The high-torque stepper motor provides a high dynamic speed range and enables rotating speeds of up to 80°/s. Adjustable limit switches prevent overtravel.
It achieves resolution of 0.0002°, unidirectional repeatability of 0,004°, hysteris of 0.004°, absolute accuracy of 0.005° and wobble of 50 µrad.
