Diagnostic Instruments Inc. has unveiled an enhanced Spot Xplorer XS digital camera system for biological imaging. Providing 14-bit megapixel images at up to 11 full frames per second, and as low as 4.5 e2 read noise for tracking rapid events, the system features dual-speed readout for maximum speed or lowest noise level. It delivers —42 °C regulated cooling for dark noise reduction and repeatable dark frame correction, and it incorporates Sony’s ICX285AL CCD, providing >60% quantum efficiency and a selectable enhanced IR response mode. Its Spot software for Macintosh and Windows operating systems provides tools for microscopy and is supported by third-party software companies. The Slider model provides both monochrome and color images.
