NanoSight Ltd. has launched a bench-top system
that rapidly and easily sizes and counts individual nanoscale particles in suspension.
The system, NanoSight LM20, has newly developed software that allows the nonmicroscope
user to analyze particles down to 15 nm (dependent on the material) within a few
seconds. The manufacturer says that, if the particles vary in size by 50%, the device
can obtain particle size distribution profiles at higher resolution than more time-consuming
and expensive methods provide. The system uses a patented illumination method that
relies on a laser light source to visualize nanoscale particles individually, moving
under Brownian motion.
