PI (Physik Instrumente) LP has developed a P-652 piezoelectric linear-motor-driven translation stage that produces resolution of better than 0.1 μm. It contains a vacuum-compatible, nonmagnetic, self-locking motor made of an ultrasonic piezoelectric resonator and two lateral sliders connected to the resonator by a spring doubling. The stage measures 9.0 x 6.5 x 2.4 mm, can travel up to 3.2 mm and move at velocities up to 80 mm/s, and has a holding force of 0.2 N. It is designed for moving small objects such as fibers, optomechanical components, micromedical devices and micromechanics.
