LightPath Technologies has introduced f/1.0 athermalized long-wavelength infrared lens assemblies with a 10.65-mm focal length. Developed for uncooled infrared sensors using 8- to 12-μm infrared signatures, the lenses are designed as the primary optics for thermal imagers in a wide variety of applications, including homeland security, firefighting, predictive maintenance and driver vision enhancement systems in automobiles. The new lens assembly integrates proprietary Black Diamond molded chalcogenide infrared lenses that are a lower-cost substitute for high-volume diamond-turned germanium and zinc selenide optics. The optomechanical design, combined with the material properties of Black Diamond glasses, provides athermalization for temperature stability from –40 to 85 °C without additional cost.
