The A40-150C80 vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL) driver integrated circuit (IC) is available from VI Systems GmbH for short-reach optical data transmission. Designed for use in high-speed optical transceivers with serial data rates of up to 40 Gb/s, the driver IC can modulate VCSELs with very high frequencies, enabling ultrahigh-speed data transmission over a 50-/125-μm multimode fiber. Applications include short-reach optical receivers and transceiver modules used in optical communications networks and optical interconnects in the computer industry. The A40-150C chip is available as an engineering sample in die form.
