Melles Griot Optics Group has unveiled the ExtremeService
shutters for operation in environmental conditions involving temperatures from —40
to 70 °C. The devices are suitable for calibrating uncooled sensors in FLIR
systems because their blade coatings are highly emissive in the IR spectral region.
With a spring return mechanism, a 25.2-mm clear aperture and 12- or 3-V solenoids,
the shutters have applications in night vision and infrared illumination systems
and in a variety of analytical, metrology and photonics instrumentation. Normally
open or closed and enhanced shock- and vibration-resistant versions are available.
