The Abrio imaging system from Cambridge Research & Instrumentation Inc. allows researchers to observe living cells noninvasively and in detail using intrinsic contrast within the intact cell. It enables the imaging of fine intracellular structure without the need to stain or label the samples. Birefringent structure such as actin, tubulin, myofibrils and collagen can be seen in fine detail. The system incorporates Windows-based software that enables the acquisition and analysis of images in a variety of modes. Its solid-state liquid crystal-based polarized light contrast technology makes it compatible with many computers and microscopes. It offers a 12-bit cooled 2/3-in. CCD sensor, calibrated measurement tools, and quantitative features such as automatic retardance and slow-axis orientation data.
