The SpectraMax M5e, announced by Molecular Devices Corp., adds the ability to read Cisbio international’s HTRF assays to the company’s family of multidetection microplate readers. Based on a dual-monochromator reader, the system is suitable for fluorescence, time-resolved fluorescence, absorbance, fluorescence polarization and luminescence assays. It handles plates with six to 384 wells and includes two photomultiplier tubes, a triple-mode cuvette port, proprietary SoftMax Pro GxP software for data acquisition and analysis, and a xenon flashlamp as its light source, operating in the 200- to 1000-nm range in 1.0-nm increments. The device supports end-point, kinetic, spectrum, multiwavelength and well-area scanning reading methods for running assays.
