Lumics GmbH has announced the release of a diode laser for solid-state and fiber laser pumping for thulium, erbium, neodymium and ytterbium. The LuOcean laser emits either continuous-wave or up to 300-W pulsed power out of a 300- or 600-μm fiber. A collimated free-space beam also is available. With an ultrasmall footprint and weighing only 400 g, the laser can be built directly without fiber into the laser head in an end-pumped Nd:YAG configuration. It features a wavelength tolerance of ±3 nm for each absorbing material. Water-cooled base plate and optional Peltier thermoelectric cooling elements for stabilization and fine-tuning of the output power and wavelength are available. It is suitable for use in medical and materials processing applications.
