Custom-engineered laser-welded assemblies that are cleaner than tungsten inert gas-welded assemblies and require no mechanical secondary operations are available from Advanced Laser Technologies. Manufactured using Nd:YAG or CO2 lasers, they can be fabricated from materials such as stainless steel, Inconel and nickel-base alloys. They feature distortion-free welding, cutting and drilling of metals up to 0.300 in., holes as small as 0.005 in. and weld depths to 0.030 in., depending upon the material, without fillers or a heat-affected zone.
