Measuring 29.2 x 35.6 x 5.7 cm, Spectronics Corp.’s Slimline series UV transilluminators save space in crowded research laboratories. The devices deliver a typical peak 312-nm intensity of 9000 mW/cm2 at the filter surface and are suitable for visualization and photo-documentation of mini gels. A diffusing screen ensures good light distribution and eliminates confusing light striations caused by the contours of the tubes. LongLife filter glass inhibits solarization up to 50 times longer than ordinary filters, extending filter life and providing greater brightness during its life span, the company says. The transilluminators have a hinged UV-blocking cover that protects users from radiation and that shields the glass filter from damage caused by objects dropping on it. They ensure minimal photobleaching, photonicking and photodimerization because they eliminate transmission of harmful 254-nm radiation.
