Varioptic SA has announced its second-generation liquid lens family. The B617 programmable liquid lenses are the first offering in the Baltic family of products that integrate optical image stabilization and autofocus functionality in the same element. The lenses have no moving parts and are suitable for use in high-performance mobile products such as smart phones. They are used in consumer, medical, military and industrial devices including full high definition digital video camcorders, bar-code readers, security and biometric cameras, dental cameras and machine vision cameras. They compensate for handshake blur and improve low-light image quality. The lenses are robust and shock-resistant and use up to 90% less power than voice coil motor actuators.
