Hamamatsu Corp. has introduced the C11440-50B CMOS board-level camera for OEMs. Based on a next-generation scientific CMOS image sensor, the camera combines high resolution, sensitivity and speed with low noise. At its core, a new image sensor, the FL-280, features 2.8 megapixels and a pixel size of 3.63 x 3.63 μm to ensure high resolution. The sensor’s wavelength sensitivity ranges from the UV to the NIR, with peak sensitivity (better than 60% quantum efficiency) at ~450 to 500 nm. Its design keeps readout noise minimal, even at fast readout speeds. Possible readout speed ranges from 45 fps at full resolution up to 1273 fps with subarray readout. Applications include life sciences imaging, such as high-speed calcium imaging; and Förster resonance energy transfer, fluorescence in situ hybridization, total internal reflection fluorescence and real-time confocal microscopy.
