Omicron Laserage Laserprodukte GmbH has begun serial production of direct 515-nm laser diodes for use in biotechnology. Compared with conventional argon gas lasers and diode-pumped solid-state lasers (DPSS), the green diode lasers offer numerous advantages, according to the company. Their direct analog modulation of up to 500 MHz eliminates the need for optoacoustic modulators, making them more compact. They have an optical output power of 25 mW, resulting in a long lifetime. The Luxx and Phoxx laser series with the new 515-nm diode will mainly replace DPSS lasers with the same wavelength. The 515-nm wavelength is available for all of the company’s laser models.
