Optris GmbH has unveiled the second generation of its PI thermal imager. The stationary camera is now equipped with a new detector to improve measurement accuracy. The new generation of detectors enables measurement of small objects on a micrometer scale. Thermal images can be displayed in real time at a rate of 120 Hz, or one picture every 8 ms, as a result of improved signal processing. The imager is based on a small uncooled 160 x 120-pixel detector that produces good local resolution of the device under test. Pixel size is 25 x 25 μm. Thermal processes of very small objects starting from 50 μm can be imaged, such as small surface-mount-device components. Precise measurements can be performed starting from a size of 0.5 mm.
